Today, my dad got laid-off from his job of 30 years. When he picked me up at the airport this evening, I asked him how he was coping. He said, "I have a loving wife, a daughter who just got home from college, and a son and daughter in-law who have my first grandchild on the way. I couldn't be happier! A job I can find anywhere." Today, he fooled me again. I keep making the same mistake. Because I desperately love and miss the person he used to be. But I don’t love and miss who he is today. MMT

Today, I got a letter recommending me for AP 3 classes and early college enrollment. I've also received 20 letters from colleges, including an Ivy League. I'm a sophomore. Pretty darn good for the daughter of illegal Mexican aliens. MMT

Today, my friend told me I was beautiful. Actually, he said, “Thank you for being so beautiful.” My friend is blind. MMT

Today, she told me she sometimes pretends to be cold just so I’ll let her wear my jacket around at school. MMT

Today, the den leader asked my son to put some water in a cup so we can cook with it. After my son retrieved the water, he was slowly inching his way back trying not to spill any of it out of the cup. The den leader then said, "Hustle up! As is true in all areas of our lives, it's perfectly ok to spill a little." MMT

Today, while everyone else was complaining about the overbooked flight, I smiled and joked with the gate agent about my willingness to sit in the belly of the plane with the luggage. 15 minutes later, the gate agent found me sitting in the gate area and hand delivered a first class ticket to me. She winked and said, “Thanks for being so patient. As you know, the coach cabin is full.” MMT

Today, I cried when I saw the cuts on my daughters arms. But couldn't tell her not to hurt herself that way, because I do it too. MMT

Today, as I was cleaning out my closet and packing for college, I found the sweatshirt you gave me freshman year. It still smells like you, and I'm still crying. If that man hadn't been drinking that night, I know you would be coming to the same college with me, just like we planned. MMT

Today, my 16 year old son told me, “I’m not afraid of death. I’m afraid of life and what it means if I die before I achieve my dreams.” MMT

Today, after 7 years of living on my own, things have gotten rough. I lost my job and I can't afford my bills, or even buy food. So I called my parents for the first time to ask for some financial help, and that I would pay them back ASAP. My dad told me that not eating for a month 'would do me some good.' MMT

Today, I went to visit my father because a lot of things have been going wrong in my life and I needed someone to talk to. I sat at his grave for two hours and told him everything. MMT

Today, my next door neighbor’s kids were screaming and being rowdy again. So I slammed my windows shut and ignored the noise. Then my doorbell rang. It was the boy from next door. He cried, “Didn’t you hear me screaming? Help me! Hurry!” His sister hit her head in the pool and drowned. The paramedics said she could have lived if someone had gotten to her sooner. MMT

Today, I complained about having to go for a run in the rain. On that run I saw a cyclist with one leg who smiled and waved to me. He said, "It's a beautiful day, isn't it?" MMT

Today, he told me, “I’m honestly not sure where my life is headed anymore. But I don’t really care because I know we’ll be living through it together.” MMT

Today, as I approached the door to my dad's 48th birthday party, I considered turning back before being seen. But he looked so happy with his new wife and friends all gathered in his honor. So I chose to enter with a smile. I don't regret it. I have not had so much fun with my dad since I was a kid. MMT
