Today, as I was grumping around the office because I thought I was having a really horrible day, my coworker got a call from her mom who told her that her sister had been in a fatal car accident. MMT

Today, he thought he was invincible. Tonight, his family found out he was wrong. MMT

Today at my college graduation, a 22-year-old graduate wheeled her 30-year-old brother in his wheel chair across the stage with her. The announcer read both of their names as they crossed. The brother was an Army Reserve who was ordered to active duty in 2004, injured, and came back to complete his degree. MMT

Today at 7AM I woke up feeling ill, but decided I needed the money, so I went in to work. At 3PM I got laid off. On my drive home I got a flat tire. When I went into the trunk for the spare, it was flat too. A man in a BMW pulled over, gave me a ride, we chatted, and then he offered me a job. I start tomorrow. MMT

Today, my close friend died unexpectedly in a car accident. A cab driver saw me crying outside the hospital all alone at 3AM. He stopped, helped me into the cab, drove me to my house 30 miles away and refused to let me pay him. MMT

Today, my grandfather gazed over at my grandmother and said to me, “You know, we’ve been together so long, and I know her so well, that when I look at her, I don’t even see what’s on the outside anymore. I could be blind and see the woman I love.” MMT

Today, when I lost my cell phone, it suddenly dawned on me that I know almost all of my coworker’s office extensions and cell phone numbers by heart. But I had to send my own son an email to let him know I’d be working late, because for the life of me, I couldn’t remember his cell number. MMT

Today, like most days, the only thing I want to do more than choke him, is kiss him. MMT

Today, after my mother harshly judged me for what she read in my private diary, for the first time in ten years I understood why my father left her. And for the first time ever, I gave my father a call, instead of it being the other way around. MMT

Today, my mother gave me a bag of 30 oranges. As I walked home from her condo I passed a homeless woman. She asked me for change, but I didn’t have any. So I asked her if she liked oranges. She said yes. I took 2 for myself and gave her the rest. Her smile satisfied me in a way 28 oranges never could. MMT

Today, when I got home from dropping you off at the airport, I sat at our kitchen table and stared down at my wedding ring and then up at the photo of my dad hanging on our refrigerator, and then I cried. I just hope the war doesn’t take you away from me too. MMT

Today, I overheard my wife tell my 11 year old daughter that I wouldn’t be home for supper. To which my daughter replied, “The more successful daddy is at work, the less time he seems to spend with us at home.” MMT
