Today, I turned 22. At my birthday party my mom told some of my friends that as I was being born I almost died in the birth canal. All of my friends started talking about how different their lives would be without me and how there are so many things they would never have had the guts to do if it hadn’t been for me. Their comments made me smile and MMT.

Today, on the 12th and final sprint up the hill on a jogging path (in an attempt to self-train myself for D1athletics), an older jogger stopped his run to clap and cheer me on until I made it to the top of the hill. A lot of people I know don't support my goal, but this stranger does and he inspires me and MMT.

Today, I pulled into a small gas station in the middle of the desert in New Mexico and realized I had left my wallet at my girlfriends house 5 hours away. I had no money and barely enough gas to make it another mile down the road. The only other person that stopped for gas was a burly looking trucker. I was a bit reluctant, but I asked him for some spare change for gas. Instead he filled my tank and said, “Someone did this for me a few years ago.” MMT

Today, the teenager I scream at almost every day for driving too fast in the neighborhood because it worries me that he’s going to run over my kids, ran across the street from his driveway to ours and grabbed my son off of his tricycle in the middle of the street just before a swerving drunk driver ran over my son’s tricycle and kept going. Today, earlier, I was at a high school house party and was drugged. I woke up in my own bed at my parent’s house about 2 hours ago. It turns out the nerdy guy in my Algebra II class, whom I’ve never spoken to, stood up for me when I was unconscious and then called my brother and helped him get me back home safely. MMT

Today, after being laid off last month, I’m struggling to find a new job and struggling with the possibility of having to move 3000 miles away to find one. I’m completely lost when it comes to reestablishing my footing in corporate America. But through it all my wife has been so supportive. And as lost as I feel in my professional life right now, I’ve never been happier in my personal life. MMT

Today, four years after my mom passed away, my dad married her only sister (my aunt). It freaked me out when they first started seeing each other, but now I can see the love in their eyes when they’re together. And they both cherish their memories of my mom openly. Their relationship is now one of the healthiest relationships I know of. MMT

Today, a school bus stopped in front of me at a crosswalk and a little kid was waving at me frantically. I laughed and waved back. There was a look of surprise and then extreme happiness on the kid's face that someone waved back to him. The way children appreciate the small things in life MMT.

Today, as I was driving to work, I was hating my life for condemning myself to so much stress. On the right hand side of the road, I noticed a local homeless man that I often see, dragging with him all of his belongings in garbage bags through the cold. He had a huge smile on his face. MMT

Today, I was walking home from work in the pouring rain without an umbrella. I was walking just behind an elderly man who had an umbrella. As we both passed under the overhang to an apartment building, he stopped, turned around and handed me the umbrella. He said, “This is my stop and you look like you need an umbrella. Pass it along someday when the opportunity arises.” MMT

Today, the creepy guy who lives downstairs mumbled something to me on my way out the front door of our apartment complex, but I ignored him like I always do and kept walking. When I got outside there were two men who immediately approached me, begged for money and began harassing me. I ran back inside. The creepy guy was standing there and said, “I tried to warn you. I’ve already notified the police.” MMT
