Today, the homeless man that I always give leftover food to as I’m closing up my food cart for the night gave me a birthday card. I only told him my birthday once – last year on my birthday when I had a birthday balloon tied to the cart that one of my regular patrons had given me. MMT

Today, I read an old letter that my mom had saved in the attic. It was from my grandfather to my grandmother during World War 2. The last line in the letter really got to me. It said, “Your smile in the photo you gave me on the day I departed has been my constant reminder of why I know I have to survive.” He did survive and they married a year later. MMT
