Today, after I picked her up from her broken down car at 3AM, she hugged me and said, “Thank you for being my best friend.” She had never called me that before so it made me smile. “Best friend, eh?” I joked with her. “When did I earn that title?” She smiled back and said, “A long time ago, but I guess I was just confronted with it tonight. Ya know? A friend you can call up at 3AM is someone really special.” MMT

Today, it’s been 10 years since I told my best friend Diego that I wouldn’t be able to attend the prom with him because my family was struggling to make ends meet and couldn’t afford to buy me a ticket or a dress. Diego ended up buying me a dress and a ticket, and helping my folks out with money by helping my dad, who had been unemployed for six months, find a good job. Ten years, a marriage, and one kid later, Diego still MMT.

Today, on our 50th wedding anniversary, my husband took out an old envelope and handed me back the love note I wrote him in the 7th grade. MMT

Today, after a slow night of receiving minuscule tips for 8 long hours, the final guy I waited on left me a $60 (100%) tip and a note on a napkin that said, "Life is good." MMT

Today, my wife and I sat down and watched the same movie at the same time. Despite being 9,000+ miles apart overseas on active duty, I felt like she was sitting right by me and I suddenly didn't feel so alone. MMT

Today, I finally stopped being foolish and called an old best friend I hadn't talked to in over a year. He singlehandedly got me one of the toughest times of my life, and in my depression I lashed out at him and dropped him from my life for selfish reasons. He answered the phone with: "Ready to pick up where we left off?" It instantly made me smile. Jason, you MMT.

Today was the final day of my nursing program, and a bunch of us decided to go out for lunch to celebrate. My husband has been out of work and finances are tight, so I didn't have the money to buy a meal. But I wanted to go with the group, so I just drank some water and talked with the others. When their orders came and they saw that I had no food they insisted on sharing with me, and everyone pitched in a bit of their meal. My generous classmates MMT.

Today is my birthday. I am the only girl in my Computer Science II class at school, and I have been teased by some of the guys for it (in a friendly way). But I still baked cookies for every one of them on their birthday (something I love to do anyway). Today I was expecting nothing, but when I walked into class today, 7 of the guys had brought in cookies they baked for me, without talking to each other about it. It made my whole year. MMT

Today, I worked Christmas Eve and waited on on a quiet couple that didn't talk much, so I left them alone and took care of them like I should. They left money on the table with a note thanking me for my service. It said, "Merry Christmas, you're a wonderful server we enjoyed having you." And left me a big tip. I usually dislike working Christmas Eve, but this note and extra money literally made me cry. Their kindness MMT.

Today, my dad came home with roses for my mom and I. "What are these for I asked?" He said that several of his coworkers were complaining about their wives and children today. He realized how lucky he was that after 20 years of marriage, and raising a daughter for the last 17 years, he still had nothing to complain about. MMT

Today, we were reminiscing about the day we met 40 years ago in high school. "What are these scars from?" she asked. "They're my battle wounds," I replied. "Who were you battling?" she asked. "Myself," I replied. She hugged me and asked, "Can I help?" I never cut myself again. And then we married five years later. MMT

Today, a friend and I were waiting outside a burger diner when a middle-aged man with a shaved head and tattoos covering his arms, face and neck came up me us. He pointed to his beat up van and said that he had run out of gas and needed some money to get his family home. My friend handed him 10 dollars without hesitation. And then, out of left field, the man started crying and hurried back to his car. He brought each of his children over to thank my friend personally. MMT

Today, it’s been over ten years since I was a bag boy at a local grocery store. On Sunday mornings I held the front door open for our customers and greeted them. One particular older woman loved me for it. She actually told me on several occasions that one day I would make a lovely husband. This afternoon, I walked into that grocery store holding my wife’s hand and the same old woman was on her way out. She held the door for us, winked and said, “I told you so.” MMT

Today, I was having a tedious afternoon when I got a regular (non-video) phone call from my deaf friend, Jake. I was confused, but I answered it and he started talking to me. I literally cried because he could hear me and reply in real-time. I later learned that he recently received a cochlear implant that allows him to hear in more settings. This miracle made my day and MMT.

Today, it’s been a month since my wife spotted an injured stray cat on the side of the road that had been hit by a car. We pulled over, picked it up, and brought it to the animal hospital we take our dog to. The hospital admitted the cat and said they’d care for it free of charge. This morning we got a call that the cat was back on its feet, as sweet as can be, and looking for a permanent home. Right now he’s curled up on my lap. MMT

Today, as usual, my bus driver said good morning to every student who got on her bus. Even though most kids don't respond, she persists. I’m usually one of them those kids. But this morning I was having a rough time due to some family issues at home, and as I was waiting at the bus stop with light tears in my eyes, I realized that my bus driver’s “good morning” greeting was something I was really looking forward to. So when she said it to me, I gave her a hug and finally said, “Thank you!” MMT

Today, it’s been almost seven years since my sister Sara, and her husband Jason, have been trying to conceive a baby. They have had 8 miscarriages due to a problem with my sister’s reproductive organs. I volunteered as their surrogate a couple months ago. And today I found out I'm carrying their identical twins. I have never seen two people so in love and so happy. And that makes me happy, and MMT

Today, a young Marine and his wife came into our diner next to the airport. He was still in his military uniform, and looked as though he had just gotten off a plane from somewhere overseas, because he still had his bag with him. They sat crying and smiling together. During the meal, an elderly gentlemen snuck up to the counter and quietly paid for the meal. The whole situation made me smile and MMT.

Today, my best friend got into a car accident that left her with a concussion. For a short time she couldn't remember anything that had happened before waking up in the hospital bed, she didn't even know who her own mother was. But when I walked into her hospital room, she looked up at me and said, "Megan, thank you for coming to see me." That was the first smile I haven't faked in a long time. MMT
