Today, when I asked the Watchman of our old building "How come the Lift is on 14th floor everyday at 7:30am?" (it's the time I leave for work) He replied, "Madam, our building lift is so slow that it will take at least a few minutes from Ground Floor to the 14th floor." So every day from Ground Floor, I press the 14th floor button at 7:25am sharp, so you won't have to wait. MMT

Today, I stood beside him as his best man and listened to him recite the most beautiful wedding vows to a lovely woman he met five years ago at work. And as I stood there smiling, I thought about the first time I met him nearly twenty years ago. It was when I offered him my raincoat and lunchtime leftovers, after watching him attempt to move a shopping cart full of his possessions out of the pouring rain. MMT

Despite everything my alcoholic mother and her abusive husband put me through - the hungry, sleepless nights I spent in tears as a young kid - it didn't ruin me. Today, I can't believe that her smiling at me was the highlight of a day in which I landed my dream job, finally got my dad to sincerely congratulate me for something, and found a hundred bucks in the back of a cab. But I guess that's the power of a father's love for his daughter. MMT

Today my colleague told me a story of his past where he was abandoned by his parents and left with barely any money to live off of. Many times, he would be so hungry that he'd eat out of the trash. He worked to put himself through middle school, high school and college. I would have never have imagined this part of his life, because he is so bright, outgoing and extremely successful in all that he does. His ability to thrive despite his past and scars MMT.
