Today, I went back to the hospital at 6:30AM, expecting to schedule my first chemo appointment following my initial MRI scans and biopsy tests yesterday, but my golf ball sized tumor came back benign, and I can be back to 100% with a simple operation. And the sunrise on my drive home was more beautiful than I can ever remember seeing before. MMT

Today, my teacher, Mr. Jansen, had a bully who has been picking on me every day permanently removed from class. He did this without me ever saying a word about it. I saw him eyeing the bully a time or two with disgust, but he never intervened or did anything to embarrass me. Teachers who pay attention and genuinely care MMT.

Today, through my tears I told my grandmother that I feel like life always deals me a bad hand. She put her hand on my shoulder and said, “Honey, life is not about holding good cards, but in playing the cards you hold well.” MMT

Today, my sister was in a severe car accident, and although she is expected to live, there are many unknowns at this point. A cab driver who had just dropped someone else off at the hospital, saw me crying outside the emergency room this evening and he stopped, helped me into the cab, and drove me to my house on the other side of the city free of charge. In broken English he said, “I can only accept a smile as payment this time.” And so I smiled, and he smiled, and I felt a little better. MMT

Today, I completed the Center of the Nation marathon in Colony, Wyoming in 3 hours, 58 minutes and 27 seconds. It was my first marathon since the motorcycle accident five years ago, when three different doctors told me I would likely never walk again. MMT

Today, it has been exactly six months since my doctor at the Scripps cancer treatment hospital gave me six months to live. And although I’m still struggling, I have made far more progress than my doctor expected, she says I have at least another six months in me now, and I feel blessed to get this extra time. MMT

Today, as I cried to my parole officer, explaining to her that I feel like I have ruined my entire life, she said, “I wouldn’t go that far. I’ve seen a lot of dead bodies in my day, based on bad decisions. You still have plenty of life left in you.” MMT

Today I was supposed to take the greyhound from LA to SF to attend my friends funeral. I took a cab to greyhound, but the cab driver got lost. We got to the bus stop just as the bus pulled away. The taxi cab driver saw my despair and told me not to worry. Free of charge, he drove me around LA for 45 minutes, trying to beat the bus to its next stop. I eventually got to the next stop just as the bus pulled up. His selflessness and kindness MMT.

Today, my son and I went to the local bakery to buy fresh bread. He usually asks me for one oatmeal cookie, but today he asked me for three. They only cost 25 cents, so I didn’t think too much of it. I assumed he wanted to bring a couple home, but on our walk home, my son took the other two cookies and handed them to two homeless men he pointed out to me on our way to the bakery. MMT

Today, we had a blind man at our ice skating rink skating at a fairly decent speed around the skating rink. He kept one hand extended out just barely grazing the outer wall and a walking stick in the other hand extended forward. When I asked him if he skated often, he said, “Not since I was a kid… and I used to love to skate. I just put all this together yesterday, which is why I’m here today.” MMT

Today, a lady I taught ten years ago during her senior year of high school, who is now a well known local surgeon, came into my classroom in the middle of a lesson, gave me a note, and walked back out. The note said, "I was here today helping students in the same way you helped me. Thanks for helping me figure out my future." MMT

Today, I witnessed a pretty bad car accident. Immediately following the collision, the woman who was rear-ended, and not at fault, jumped out of her car, and instead of screaming at the other driver, ran to his window and said, “Are you OK? Is everyone OK?” MMT

Today, I'm the happiest I've ever been thanks to being fired a couple years ago, getting dumped by my ex, and then being forced to move back in with my parents for awhile in my hometown... because that’s where I met the love of my love of my life--who's now my fiancé--and now I also have an amazing job working with two of my close friends. Today my little brother, a burn victim with scars that cover the entire left side of his face, informed me that he wanted to ask last year’s homecoming queen out on a date. I thought he was crazy. But she said yes, and they went out on the date and have a second date scheduled already. MMT

Today, a deaf man came to my store to order a pizza. He handed me a note letting me know that he cannot hear. After exchanging the paper various times so I could place his order, his final note to me was, "You are so kind and so beautiful, inside and out. Thank you for being patient and accepting of my condition. I've been too afraid to come here for over a year now. I bet your voice is as beautiful as your personality." MMT

Today after a year and a half of recovery of anorexia nervosa and depression I have my last appointment before leaving for college. Back then I could barely walk up stairs without running out of breath. Now I can walk across a campus. My family and friends' support and love, even when I refused it, MMT.

Today, I was thinking how my 7th grade Social Studies teacher had served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and how he was the best teacher I've ever had. When the holiday season came along, he always sent a notice to all the parents, asking that any money being put towards gifts for him be instead donated to charity. MMT
