Today, I went ice skating. Everyone skating was young, except one guy in his mid-50’s. He kept falling down and smiling. And all the kids kept laughing along with him. I asked him why he decided to skate today. He said, "I was at work earlier and realized I had never been ice skating. So here I am." MMT

Today, my mom told me that she had a miscarriage between my sister and I. She always thought it would have been a boy and she would name him Benjamin. His due date was June 13th, 1992. This year, on June 12th, she checked the mailbox. She found two bank statements, one for my dad and one for a Benjamin with our last name that accidentally got mixed up with our mail. Maybe another family with our last name needed that little boy more than us. Maybe he was their miracle. MMT

Today, I saw something I've seen a hundred times before from a slightly different angle. And now I realize that everything I thought I saw before was just an illusion. MMT

Today, I have an elderly patient who is suffering from a severe case of Alzheimer’s. He can rarely remember his own name, and he often forgets where he is and what he said just a few minutes beforehand. But by the stretch of some miracle (perhaps the miracle of love), he remembers who his wife is every morning when she shows up to spend a few hours with him. He usually greets her by saying, “Hello my beautiful Kate.” MMT

Today, it’s been lifetime since my father told me, "It'll never work between you two." But here I am 40 years later, married to her, and still the happiest man alive. MMT

Today, as my 81 year old mother and I sat in the waiting area of a restaurant, the 1960’s song “Don't Worry Baby” by The Beach Boys came on the radio, and she started to smile. “What are you smiling about?” I asked. “This was our song – your dad and I, that is,” she said. “You know, your dad has been gone for almost a decade, and it’s been nearly 50 years since he and I first heard this song playing in a night club. But every time I hear it, it reminds me of that night, dancing with him on our first official date. And that makes me smile.” MMT

Today, on the one year anniversary of my wife’s passing, the rose garden she built and tended in our back yard bloomed with dozens of roses. Oddly, it never bloomed in the spring this year like it usually does, and there were no visible flowers on the bushes when I mowed the lawn yesterday afternoon. I’m not sure how to explain this, but it MMT.

Today you changed my mind. Before this afternoon, I thought it was only in silly movies that people could kiss and dance in the rain and not care how wet they got. MMT
