Today, I realized that to me she's been a friend, a lover, an enemy, and everything in between. But every day, to 35 kids, she's a role model, an inspiration, a guiding light in a sea of confusion. And today when I stopped by for lunch, I saw that side of her, and she left me speechless. MMT

Today, a man came in to apply at my restaurant. He seemed charismatic, kind, knowledgeable, and friendly. Later, when I went to call him to extend a job offer, I noticed he had written "ask for me" under his number. The number belongs to a homeless shelter. But I’m gonna take a risk and hire him anyways. Today, I drove past a wedding just as they came out the church. Everyone looked so happy. At the opposite end of that same street, a large group of bikers were following a hearse. It took me 30 seconds to drive from one of the happiest moments in a person's life to the saddest. The cycle of life MMT.

Today is my 5 year anniversary of sobriety. It also marks the 5 year anniversary of the day I thought I'd lose my wife and children to my addiction. But they stuck by my side. And now I'm happier and healthier than I've ever been. MMT

Today, as I helped my son pack for his first deployment to Afghanistan, I hid notes that say, “I love you!” in the pockets of all of his clothes. I just hope the notes motivate him to return home safely. MMT

Today, I found out for the first time that despite constant complaints about being broke, and using what little money he gets from odd construction jobs to pay the rent, my father has been depositing $100 every month into my college fund since I was born. MMT
