Today, I was rear-ended in a hit and run accident. In his haste to flee the scene, the guy who hit my car failed to notice that his front license plate fell off. When the cops arrived at the scene, I simply handed them the plate. MMT

Today, I told my mother that I hated her for burdening me with all her marriage problems over the last several years. She cried and then told me she will have to burden me again because she was just diagnosed with colon cancer this morning. I’ve been crying ever since. MMT

Today, I left her a voicemail I know she’ll never receive. But I just had to hear her voice one last time. MMT

Today, I was doing laundry in my dorm and someone's clothes were done but still sitting in the washer. I was in a hurry, so I moved them into the dryer and paid for them. When I came back an hour later to move my clothes into the dryer, someone had already put my clothes in the dryer and paid. MMT

Today, it really sucked that my only true friend out of the 100+ people in the room, was the one lying in the casket. MMT

Today, I was walking along the boardwalk in Pacific Beach when I saw 4 teenagers heckling a homeless beach bum. He laughed and said, "I'm not crazy! 'Crazy' is spending 40 years of your life hating 40 hours a week." MMT

Today, I met an amazing woman at the airport. We shared lunch and laughed for 3 hours straight while we waited for our flights. She gave me her number and I lost it. Her name is Emily, she teaches English in China, and she is smart and beautiful… and that’s all I know about her. MMT

Today in downtown San Diego, I watched a blue collar Mexican man get harassed for being Mexican. It was a blatant act of discrimination. And the man actually began crying. As he left the office building, he took off his jacket. His t-shirt underneath read, "I love the USA!" MMT

Today, after work, I got to my car and found a giant dent in my rear bumper. The jerk who did this did not leave a note. Apparently, he was in such a haste to flee the scene of the crime that he didn’t even realize his license plate fell off of his car. What goes around comes around. MMT

Today, I was working in a coffee shop when 2 gay men walked in holding hands. As you might expect, heads started turning. Then a young girl at the table next to me asked her mom why 2 men were holding hands. Her mom replied, "Because they love each other." MMT

Today my best friend’s mother, who’s been a pro life activist for as long as I can remember, had an abortion. She’s 52 years old and her doctors told her the pregnancy may cost her her life. MMT

Today, I had to go to a funeral for a 26 year old coworker of mine who had a stroke at work this week and was pronounced dead at the scene. He and his widow just got married last year, just bought a house last month, and just had a beautiful baby boy last week. And then just like that… he was gone. MMT

Today while I was driving in my car, another driver two cars in front of me tossed litter out the window. Suddenly, a motorcycle in front of me pulled over near the litter as I passed. When we stopped at the next red light, the motorcycle pulled up to the car that littered and handed the driver his trash back. MMT

Today I took a bus to visit a friend in another city, and was seated beside a mentally challenged woman. I pulled out my netbook so I could do some programming. The sheer joy that lit up on her face when I took the time to explain what I was doing was unparalleled to anything I have ever seen. MMT

Today, I saw a man and woman on a shiny new motorcycle pull up to a street corner. The man was well-groomed and the woman had dirt all over her clothes. She dismounted and pulled a cardboard sign out of her backpack. As he roared off, she sat down on the street corner and began panhandling. MMT

Today, I was at the beach watching a little girl chase her father's remote controlled car around in circles. She kept jumping forward and falling on her knees in an effort to catch the car as it skidded by. She did this 31 times and failed. But on attempt #32, she caught the car. MMT

Today, I found out that my best (guy) friend was critically injured in Afghanistan during his first week of deployment. He had to have his left leg amputated. In the 10 years we’ve been friends, I’ve never had the courage to tell him how much I love him. I'm visiting him next week. And I intend to tell him. MMT

Today, as they teased me and laughed hysterically, I just wished they could see the world through my eyes. MMT

Today, at work, a woman and her young daughter came to my register. The girl was hugging her mother's leg and being very well behaved. She kept saying, “I love you mommy.” Suddenly, her mom jerked her leg and said, "Get off!" The young girl walked 15 feet behind her mother the whole way to their car. MMT

Today, as our son sat on my lap crying because you canceled on him again, I realized that I miss the person you were, but I don’t miss you. MMT

Today, I dropped to my knees and nearly vomited when I read her suicide note and realized it blamed me. MMT

Today, I met a powerful businessman who is worth 100 million dollars. In conversation he told me he regretted never making it to his son’s hockey games or his daughter’s dance recitals. It made me smile because my dad is probably only worth as much as this man’s last paycheck, but he made it to everything. MMT

Today, unaware that we were about to tell him that he had been diagnosed with leukemia, my little brother walked in on me and my parents crying at the kitchen table and jokingly said, "Whoa, who's dying?" MMT

Today, at the train stop near the hospital a man and his 3 kids got on. The kids were loud and out of control. An annoyed passenger asked, “Is there a reason you’re letting your kids go nuts?” The man sighed and said, “The doc just told me their mother isn’t going to make it. Sorry, I’m just trying to think before I tell them.” MMT

Today an old woman at the gas station came up to me and said, "I'm so embarrassed, but could you help me?" I thought she was going to ask for money, but she told me that last week her husband died and she had never pumped gas before. She had no idea what to do. MMT

Today, my father told me, "Just go for it and give it a try! You don't have to be a professional to build a successful product. Amateurs started Google and Apple. Professionals built the Titanic." MMT

Today, I put 2 hours worth of coins into a Chicago street parking meter on my way into a business meeting. The meeting lasted nearly 4 hours. I expected to see a $120 parking ticket on my car when I returned, but instead the meter read '27 minutes remaining.' Someone paid my meter for me. MMT

Today, I was traveling in Kenya and I met a refugee from Zimbabwe. He said he hadn't eaten anything in over 3 days and looked extremely skinny and unhealthy. Then my friend offered him the rest of the sandwich he was eating. The first thing the man said was, "We can share it." MMT

Today, I was walking to work when a homeless man walked up to me and asked for money. When I told him I didn't have any cash he began screaming, "Enjoy your lunch today! I'm starving and I get to eat out of a trash can!" Just when I was starting to feel bad for him, his cell phone rang. MMT

Today, I received an envelope in the mail stuffed with $600 in cash and a note that said, “Last week I bought a box of old records at your garage sale for $5. You told me your husband recently passed and that you were trying to start fresh. I sold those records on eBay for $1200 and I figured you deserved half.” MMT

Today, my best friend said to me, "I'm worried about my roommate drinking and driving. I’ve asked her to stop, but she keeps doing it. She's going to hurt herself and someone else someday." This evening, my best friend was hit by a drunk driver a block from her house. The driver was her roommate. MMT

Today, while I was driving my grandfather to his doctor's appointment, I complained about hitting 2 red lights in a row. My grandfather chuckled and said, "You always complain about the red lights, but you never celebrate the green ones." MMT

Today I got on a bus with my grandfather. It was full with only one seat left. I told my grandfather to take it, which he refused to do, insisting I take it. After a bit I gave in and took the seat. In jest, I said "Your legs are older than mine!" "Yes," he said, "But yours have further to go." MMT

Today, my mother died from lung cancer. But it was my father who smoked cigarettes in the house every day. MMT

Today, as soon as my 5-year-old baby brother came into my room, I yelled at him to get out without even looking up at him. Today, I was downtown when I saw a homeless man ask a businesswoman to pick up a candy wrapper that she had purposely dropped. Confused, the businesswoman asked, "Why do you care? Aren’t you homeless?" The man smiled and replied, "I'm not homeless. This beautiful world is my home." MMT

Today, I was looking through the Facebook remembrance groups of two people that died from my high school. The girl was sweet, smart, quiet and unpopular. She was killed by a drunk driver. The guy was inconsiderate, rude and popular. He was the drunk driver. His group has 602 members. Hers has 48. MMT

Today, when I said goodbye to him, my heart shattered into pieces because I knew I would never say hello to him again. MMT

Today, my best friend’s cousin, a neurosurgeon, took an unpaid leave of absence from his $300K a year position at the hospital to assist a non-profit medical relief organization in Haiti for the next 14 months. MMT

Today, my 8-year-old daughter came home from school and asked me to find her a website that would help her learn sign language. When I asked her why, she said, “There’s a new girl at school who only speaks sign language, and she doesn’t have anyone to talk to.” MMT

Today, after eating lunch, I walked out of a restaurant carrying a box of leftovers. A homeless man came up to me and asked if he could have some of the food. I ignored him and kept walking. Two minutes later, I tripped over a curb and spilled the leftovers all over the sidewalk. MMT

Today, I found a wallet on the street. It was packed with credit cards and $300 in cash. I took out the drivers license, put the guy's address into my GPS, and drove it to him, cash and all. He couldn't believe it. "You saved me so much grief!" he exclaimed as he handed me $300 in cash. MMT

Today, I slipped on ice and sprained my ankle on my walk home from work. A young man in a wheelchair witnessed the incident and insisted on helping me. I ended up sitting on his lap as he wheeled me 8 blocks down the street to my apartment. MMT

Yesterday, I discharged a woman in her 70's who just came out of surgery. She told me she wasn't afraid of death anymore. I asked why not. She asked me if I remembered the moment of my birth. When I replied "no," she said "It's the same way with death, I won't remember it." MMT

Today, while I was waiting at the doctor’s office for a regular check-up, I saw a nurse use a laptop in the room across the hall to check Web-MD. Then she came back into the waiting room to answer a question one of the other patients had asked her earlier. MMT

Today, like every day for the last 4 years, my father picked a fresh flower from his garden and took it to my mother. This time I decided to go with him to see her. And as he placed the flower on her grave, he said, “I just wish I had picked her a fresh flower every day when she was alive.” MMT

Today when I read the news about the healthcare debate, I thought of my dad, who died of colon cancer at 86. When the doctor told him he could have 6 to 8 more weeks with chemo and radiation, my dad was horrified. "Spend Medicare money on me when there are kids without health insurance? I'm 86!" MMT

Today, a man came into the convenient store where I work and bought cigarettes from me. He was wearing a white doctor's lab jacket and a stethoscope around his neck. MMT

Today, when I reviewed my credit card statement, I realized I spent more money on cigarettes and booze last month than I did on groceries for me and my daughter. MMT

Today at 7AM, I pulled over on my way to work to help a lady change a flat tire. At 4PM, she saved my life when she randomly saw me downtown and yanked me backwards out of a crosswalk as a car ran the red light. MMT

Today, I met a movie star celebrity who has been one of my idols since I was a kid. He was a total jerk in real life. MMT

Today, I dropped 20 dollars at six flags without realizing it and a kind man tapped me on the shoulder and told me I had dropped it. Two days ago I left my iPod on the bus and the next day the bus driver gave it back to me and said, “I recognized this as yours.” Honest people make me smile and MMT.

Today at 5AM, I asked an elderly man in the city where the nearest train stop was. He walked me to it and then waited next to me for 15 minutes. When the train finally arrived, he smiled and said, "Be safe out there, miss." and then walked away without boarding the train. MMT

Today, I received a package in the mail containing a lost journal I'd misplaced last week. There was no return address, only a post-it note stuck on the front cover saying, "I hope to be as strong as you someday." MMT

Today, I went to my 10 year high school reunion. Our prom king is now an overweight bartender. Our prom queen is a recent divorcee with 3 kids. I used to idolize these people. Now I just feel sorry for them. MMT

Today, I was walking in Ocean Beach when I saw what I thought was a homeless man sitting on a curb with a cardboard sign. As I walked by he said, “Give me a smile and I’ll give you some money.” I grinned ear to ear and he gave me a handful of change. His cardboard sign said, “Your smile makes my day.” MMT

Today, my Chevy Tahoe was retuned to me in perfect condition by the police almost a full month after it was stolen. The funny thing is, whoever stole it put a set of 19 inch rims on the vehicle that easily cost $1000 a piece. The police said they’re mine now. MMT

Today, I walked into a small coffee shop in downtown Dallas around lunchtime and politely asked, "May I please have a Venti Soy Latte?" The guy behind the counter smiled and prepared my latte for me. As I pulled out my money, he said, "The latte is on me. You're the first person all day to say 'please.'" MMT

Today, I passed two homeless men in a shouting match in my hometown of Baltimore. I thought it was just a crazy homeless person argument until I heard one say to the other, "Stop disrespecting my city! Pick-up your bottle and throw it in the trash!" He was berating the other man for littering! MMT

Today, despite that he was recently diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer and told he only has a few years to live, my brother started his final semester of college. When I asked him why he wanted to spend his time earning a degree he’ll never get to use, he said, “I just want to finish what I started.” MMT

Today, my 60-year-old grandmother began losing her hair after her first chemo treatment. So my grandfather - who has a healthy head of hair - shaved his head just to make my grandmother smile. MMT

Today, after dating my best friend from childhood for just over a month, I came to the conclusion that I need to break-up with him. I'm just not ready for all of this right now. But I don't want to lose him either and I don't think he'll understand. MMT

Today, my 7 year old daughter asked me, "Daddy, why do you always act drunk?" MMT

Today, I overheard one of my two coworkers teasing the other for riding the bus to work and choosing not to drive his car. I later overheard a coworker dealing with a credit collector who was asking for a payment. It wasn't the one who rode the bus. MMT
