Today, I watched three young children meet for the first time on a playground in a local park. They all immediately acted like best friends, playing and laughing hysterically. They made me smile, and then I began to wonder why adults lack the ability to accept each other so easily. MMT

Today, I met someone who is making $30,000 a month selling drugs. I make less than that in a year at my legal job. MMT

Today, as I wiped tears of laughter from my eyes after seeing the ridiculus outfit the goth-punk kid was wearing, I realized that in my old age I had become the person I used to hate. MMT

Today, I met a woman who must have been at least 80, jumping around and having the time of her life at a hard rock concert. MMT

Today, I skipped school to visit my grandfather in the hospital. He is battling cancer. My mom warned me that he may not recognize me due to his medication. When I walked in to say hi, his blue eyes lit up as a he said, "BB!" That’s what he used to call me when I was a little kid. MMT

Today, the supposed 'failure' in my high school showed me his artwork. He's in AP Art II and has created the most amazing artwork I've ever seen. If he hadn't showed me, I would've kept thinking he wasn't going to do anything in life. Maybe grades aren't a fair measure of success. MMT

Today, I moved into my new dorm. My mom is 6,000 miles away. And although I thought it would feel like the greatest freedom ever, I have never felt this alone in my entire life. MMT

Today I met a 90 year old woman at Kinko's who was getting her passport photo taken so she could go on a Safari in Africa next month for her 91st birthday. MMT

Today, my coworkers laughed at me when I told them my dream was to own my own bakery. When I told my father what happened, he said, “I've known a few people who went after their dreams. One thing they all had in common was they got laughed at in the process.” MMT

Today, unaware that we were about to tell him that he had been diagnosed with leukemia, my little brother walked in on me and my parents crying at the kitchen table and jokingly said, "Whoa, who's dying?" MMT

Today, I was a crying at a park over an argument I had with a friend. As I was leaving, a little girl ran up to me. Grinning widely, she said, "You looked sad so my mom said I should give you these." Then she pulled out hand-picked flowers from behind her back and gave me a hug. MMT

Today, my Calculus teacher told me about how he destroyed his iPhone. He jumped into a pool while his phone was still on him to save his two year old daughter from drowning. He saved her life, yet he talked about it as if it was completely normal. MMT

Today, I came to the realization that I waste 75% of my life on the Internet. Then, 5 minutes later, I caught myself publishing this insight on my blog. MMT

Today, after attending a wake for a friend's sister, I realized that the best things I ever heard said about her were said after her death. No one really knew her greatest moments until it was too late. Many of us live our entire lives never knowing how people really feel about us. MMT

Today, my boyfriend and I took a day off to spend the afternoon at the park and have a picnic. A well dressed, attractive white woman and her colleagues passed by us as we were eating. She took one look at our tattoos and turned to her colleagues and said, "This city needs to get rid of the riff-raff." MMT

Today, after feeling suicidal because I saw him with another woman, I found myself on the freeway in the dark, speeding, crying, hoping I would wreck. A minute later, a deer bolted out in front of me. I hit the breaks so hard I nearly rolled the car. And I sat there in silence, thankful to be alive. MMT

Today, I found out that a close friend of the family’s baby passed away. The doctors said it was SIDS. As my 2 year old was throwing a fit this afternoon, as is common during the "terrible two's,” I had never been more thankful and happy to listen to him scream. MMT

Today, on my daughter’s 18th birthday, she enlisted in the Army. When she was younger I used to tell her that her smile could stop wars, but I never thought she’d attempt to test my theory. MMT

Today, I was surprised when I showed my mom my new tattoo that says “One Life” and she actually liked it. I was even more surprised when she called me this evening to tell me that at the age of 60 she was going to return to college to complete one of her dreams. Her inspiration? My tattoo. MMT

Today, I tucked my fiancé into bed. And as she fell asleep I started to sing a lullaby my grandmother used to sing to me. It was the first time I had ever sung it to anyone. After a moment, she looked up at me smiling, with tears in her eyes. Her grandmother used to sing the same exact lullaby to her. MMT

Today, I was talking to my 10 year old next door neighbor. Then I asked her about something she told me yesterday. She looked shocked, smiled, and asked, "You were listening?" I remembered then that her parents are divorced, and her mother never seems to be around. MMT

Today, my husband celebrated a healthy, happy 80th birthday. I fell in love with him when I was 21. At the time he was almost twice my age. And despite all the initial negative reactions from family and friends, here we are smiling 40 years later. MMT

Today at a rock concert, I saw a tall, mean-looking security bouncer on my way into the mosh pit. When I turned back around 20 minutes later, he was standing next to my mom and holding my 11-year-old brother on his shoulders just so my brother could see the stage. MMT

Today, my good friend died from a drug overdose. It was her first time experimenting with prescription drugs. She always said she would try everything once. But this time it only took one time to take her life. MMT

Today I turned 23. Since my 1st birthday, my dad's parents would send me the amount of money that corresponded with my age that year. I used to laugh at how they thought so much of so little money. They both passed away earlier this year. I would give anything for a $23 check from them today. MMT
