Today, I was standing on the side of the street when a group of military personnel marched by as part of an exercise drill. To show my appreciation, I started to clap for them. I was in a large group of people waiting for a bus, and no one else clapped. MMT

Today, my next door neighbor’s kids were screaming and being rowdy again. So I slammed my windows shut and ignored the noise. Then my doorbell rang. It was the boy from next door. He cried, “Didn’t you hear me screaming? Help me! Hurry!” His sister hit her head in the pool and drowned. The paramedics said she could have lived if someone had gotten to her sooner. MMT

Today, my boyfriend was trying to pass me a note in homeroom class. Our teacher caught him and confiscated the note. She took the note back to her desk, read it, smiled, and then came back and gave it to me. The note read, “I love you. I didn't have an umbrella so I used my purse to try to shelter my son’s head from the rain. We hydroplaned into a guard rail and a metal rod went directly through the backseat where she sits. On any other day, she would have died. MMT

Today I am employed as a mail sorter for a branch of the US Military. A large envelope addressed to a top ranking officer arrived today. Under the recipient’s address, in big capital letters, the sender wrote, “I WANT MY FRIEND BACK!” MMT

Today, I received a gigantic gift bag from one of my friends. She said she appreciated me being there for her, and that I am one of her best friends. She is mentally and physically handicapped, and I merely see her for half an hour once per week. MMT

Today, a week after we celebrated my pregnancy, I noticed my husband hasn’t been smoking. He never mentioned a thing to me about quitting, so I asked him, “When did you finally decide to quit smoking?” He put his hand on my tummy and said, “When I realized I didn’t want to miss a thing.” MMT

Today, when they gave me an honorable discharge and a medal for saving two of my fellow soldiers in Afghanistan, I couldn't help but feel disgusted that I was too afraid to go back for the other two. Then a well dressed woman walked past security and toward them holding an Asian baby. Both of their faces lit up instantly. And the husband said, “That’s our new baby girl!” MMT
