Today, I got into a big fight with my boyfriend. Angry, I got on FB seeking some comfort. My friends all said they were busy. Sad, I clicked on the last person on my list, a nerdy boy who my friends pick on all the time. He listened to me for 3 hours straight, and said things that left me speechless. MMT

Today, at work, a woman and her young daughter came to my register. The girl was hugging her mother's leg and being very well behaved. Today, like every day for the last 4 years, my father picked a fresh flower from his garden and took it to my mother. This time I decided to go with him to see her. And as he placed the flower on her grave, he said, “I just wish I had picked her a fresh flower every day when she was alive.” MMT

Today when I read the news about the healthcare debate, I thought of my dad, who died of colon cancer at 86. Today, on my lunch break I used a large Macy’s shopping bag to clean out all the miscellaneous garbage that had accumulated in my trunk over the last month. When I was done I sat the bag in my backseat so I would remember to toss it in the dumpster when I got back to my apartment. But on the way home I was stopped at an intersection and a thief reached into my back window, grabbed the bag and ran off. MMT

Today, I divorced her. I did so after years of her infidelity. My two little daughters (7 and 8) are the reason it took me so long to do it. I really wanted to make the marriage work for them. But I couldn’t stand it any longer. And what kills me the most is that my daughters “hate me” for “leaving their mommy.” MMT

Today, my friend Kevin was killed in a car accident in which a drunk driver swerved into his lane creating a head-on collision. He was driving his infant brother home after taking him in his stroller for a walk at the beach. Right before the car hit, he threw himself over his brother who was strapped into a car seat in the passenger seat. His brother survived with only minor injuries. The EMTs say Kevin likely saved his brother’s life by preventing the airbag from inflicting a lethal blow to his brother’s body. MMT

She gave me the most sincere smile and said, “Nobody has said that to me in 10 years." It turns out we’re both in our mid-30’s, never married, no kids, and we live about 5 miles away from each other in Dallas. We have a date set for next Saturday after we return home. MMT

Today, a friend of mine was complaining about his mother embarrassing him in front of a large group of people by telling him how much she loved him. My mother died when I was 2. I would give anything to hear those words from my mother’s lips just once. MMT

Today, I was driving my 4 year old daughter to her dance class. The law requires her to be seated in the backseat, but she begged me to sit in the front, so I let her. We hydroplaned into a guard rail and a metal rod went directly through the backseat where she sits. On any other day, she would have died. MMT

Today, after doubting myself for nearly a decade and passing up numerous professional opportunities, I took my wife’s advice and simply applied to the Vice President of Engineering position at my current employer. The founder and CEO called me into his office an hour later, shook my hand and said, “Josh, I’m glad you’re ready to take the next step. I’ve had my eye on you for awhile. I don’t think I need to look any further.” MMT

Today, when I opened my store at 5AM there was an envelope sitting on the floor that someone had dropped through the mail delivery hole in the front door. In the envelope was $600 and a note that said, “Five years ago, I broke into your store at night and stole $300 worth of food. I’m sorry. I was desperate. Here’s the money with 100% interest.” Interestingly, I never reported the incident to the cops because I assumed that whoever stole the food really needed it. MMT
