Today, I realized the happiest face I usually see all day at the office belongs to the office janitor. He’s always smiling, whistling happy tunes, greeting people, holding doors open for others, etc. And he has thanked me several times over the last year for “giving him such a great opportunity to work here.” MMT

Today, I found out that the very first person to ask me for my autograph killed herself yesterday after our band announced a permanent hiatus. Her brother came to see me today to inform me of the sad news. He said her suicide note clearly mentioned our band and our music as the primary reason she didn’t end her life sooner. In her honor, my bandmates and I have decided to keep the band together and begin working on another studio album. MMT

Today, the homeless man that used to sleep in front of the fancy hotel where I work is now a bellhop who earns a decent living, has his own apartment and is dating one of the room service maids. And the only reason he was able to start pulling his life together is because our boss, the hotel manager, simply gave him a chance one morning a few years ago. MMT

Today, my 11 year old son brought me his piggy bank containing his life savings (approximately $150) and asked me to drive him to the mall so he could buy the homeless man who always sleeps on the park bench across the street a warmer jacket and blanket. We just got back from the mall. I paid. MMT

Today, my dad came home with a boquette of roses for my mom. She asked, “What’s the occasion?” He said, “Four of my coworkers were complaining about their wives over our lunch break today. They went into detail about all their problems. And suddenly as I sat there I realized how lucky I am, that after 27 years of marriage I still have no complaints or regrets.” My parent’s love MMT.

Today, my dad – the most frugal person I know – tipped the bag boy at the grocery store $10. When I asked him how that gesture fits in with this frugal way of living, he said, “Frugality isn’t just about spending less money, it’s about spending money on the right things. Did you see that kid’s smile? That was $10 well spent.” MMT

Today, my baby sister kissed the scar on my forehead – the one I’ve been self-conscious of my whole life – and said, “I want a scar too, so I can be beautiful just like you.” MMT

Today, my brother who has been legally blind since he was born underwent a special surgery which partially restored his vision. And as he squinted at my mother for the first time with his new eyes, he said, “You’re just as beautiful as I have dreamed you were for the last 19 years.” MMT

Today, my dad got laid-off from his job of 30 years. When he picked me up at the airport this evening, I asked him how he was coping. He said, "I have a loving wife, a daughter who just got home from college, and a son and daughter in-law who have my first grandchild on the way. I couldn't be happier! A job I can find anywhere."
