Today, I watched as 3 giddy tourists jumped around, dancing and singing for 15 minutes with a live Mickey Mouse character at Disney World. These tourists were easily 70 years old. MMT

Today, I saw a well-groomed woman at the grocery store pull food stamps out of her Louis Vuitton purse while using her fake, salon-styled nails to text on her BlackBerry. MMT

Today, after my daughter’s funeral I was going through my phone deleting all the condolence messages. There were so many of them that I simply selected ‘delete all,’ but one message didn’t delete. It was the last message my daughter left me before she passed and it was marked as ‘new.’ Sometimes my voicemail forces me to listen to messages before I can delete them, so played it. She said, “Hey dad, I just wanted to let you know I’m okay and I’m home now.” MMT

Today, I interviewed a woman who is terminally ill. "So," I tried to delicately ask, "What is it like to wake up every morning and know that you are dying?" "Well," she responded, "What is it like to wake up every morning and pretend that you are not?" MMT

Today, a complete stranger on a busy city street tapped me on the shoulder and asked, "What if you were never born? Would the world be any different?" MMT

Today, I saw a homeless woman on a street corner holding a cardboard sign. I recognized her. Her name is Kate. She used to sit next to me in my high school AP English class. MMT

Today, in the grocery store parking lot, I watched a man run as fast as he could with a packed shopping cart and then jump on the back for a ride. He smiled and chuckled aloud as he rode the cart all the way to his car. He was in his mid-40's and wearing a formal suit and tie. MMT

Today, I read an MMT story about a 40-year-old man jumping on the back of a shopping cart and taking a ride across the parking lot. It inspired me. So this afternoon, after I went shopping, that man was me! MMT

Today, I was walking to work when a homeless man walked up to me and asked for money. When I told him I didn't have any cash he began screaming, "Enjoy your lunch today! I'm starving and I get to eat out of a trash can!" Just when I was starting to feel bad for him, his cell phone rang. MMT

Today, I asked my 6 year old son what he wants to be when he grows up. He said, "Mommy, all I want to be is happy." MMT

Today, when the chief ordered the firefighters to evacuate the building due to “extremely hazardous conditions,” I began to panic even more. My daughter was still trapped inside. But one fire fighter didn’t listen to the orders. Instead he ran around to another apartment unit that borders the other side of our unit, went out onto the balcony, jumped over to our balcony, smashed through the sliding glass door with an axe, and brought my daughter out alive. Today, at work, a woman and her young daughter came to my register. The girl was hugging her mother's leg and being very well behaved. She kept saying, “I love you mommy.” Suddenly, her mom jerked her leg and said, "Get off!" The young girl walked 15 feet behind her mother the whole way to their car. MMT

Today, my greatest accomplishment was lifting a cup to my mouth on my own so I could drink my first sip of water after neurosurgery. Last week I was worried about deadlines, bills, and being on time for staff meetings. MMT

Today, at the doctor’s office where I work, a Latino woman filled out the forms for her son’s medical exam. In the 'Ethnicity' section, she marked 'Other' and wrote in 'American.' MMT

Today, I asked my Mom to come down after work to my college campus because I have been feeling sick and have had a horrible last few days. She dropped everything and drove the hour to spend her evening with me. That's real love- you are never too old to need your parents. She made me feel 100 times better. MMT

Today, I asked an elderly airport attendant where I could find the restroom. After showing me, he stared at me, smiled widely, and pulled me into an abrupt hug. I was startled and pulled away quickly. Then he said, “You remind me so much of my daughter whom I haven't seen in over a decade.” MMT

Today, during a fire evacuation at school, I ran outside to find one of the thugs at our school, who is notorious for being a tough guy, holding my little sister’s hand (she’s a special needs student) and telling her, “You’re okay. You’re safe,” and calming her down as she slowly stopped crying. MMT

Today, a good friend of mine mentioned that we don't talk as much as we used to. I said, "That's just because we don't have childish debates over random BS anymore." And he replied, "Yeah, I miss that." MMT

Yesterday, I discharged a woman in her 70's who just came out of surgery. She told me she wasn't afraid of death anymore. I asked why not. She asked me if I remembered the moment of my birth. When I replied "no," she said "It's the same way with death, I won't remember it." MMT

Today, a man came into the convenient store where I work and bought cigarettes from me. He was wearing a white doctor's lab jacket and a stethoscope around his neck. MMT

Today, I woke up naked in his bed. I met him last night at a party. I can’t remember the end of the evening. But I remember saying “no.” MMT

Today, due to recent storm damage to our barn, my family had to put our biggest horse, weighing 1300 lbs, into the same stall as our pony, who is the size of a Labrador. The 2 get along great. As I watched this unique friendship grow, I wondered why humans have such difficulty looking past petty differences. MMT

Today, I found out that a close friend of the family’s baby passed away. The doctors said it was SIDS. As my 2 year old was throwing a fit this afternoon, as is common during the "terrible two's,” I had never been more thankful and happy to listen to him scream. MMT

Today, I am 1000 miles away from home studying to be an engineer in a prestigious private school, I have an amazing boyfriend who treats me like I am the most wonderful person on Earth, and I am the happiest I've ever been. Six years ago I attempted suicide and nearly succeeded. MMT

Today, I decided to redesign my room. As a design major, the first thing I did was create a color palette of the current room. When I reviewed the colors, I realized my room has been Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle color themed for 4 years and I didn't consciously realize it. TMNT was my favorite show as a kid. MMT
