Today, I have an elderly patient who is suffering from a severe case of Alzheimer’s. He can rarely remember his own name, and he often forgets where he is and what he said just a few minutes beforehand. But by the stretch of some miracle (perhaps the miracle of love), he remembers who his wife is every morning when she shows up to spend a few hours with him. He usually greets her by saying, “Hello my beautiful Kate.” MMT

There are different types of memory, and Alzheimer's does not degrade all of them. It could also be a conditioned response if this is something the patient has been used to saying for a long stretch of time. This is heartwarming, but let's not be calling every little thing we can't comprehend a miracle.

I think if we start celebrating more things as miracles, this world would be a better place.

I agree mufusa..this is a heart warming story and no doubt it makes his wifes day when he greets her

Cardinal mistake, MrJay, to apply logic over sentiment when something on this site makes you think. Readers here prefer the impossiblity of miracles over medical fact every time.

Is the punchline to this story that the elderly patient is Prince William?
