Today, I’m in the Marines and currently stationed in Korea. This morning it was particularly rainy and dreary. Before I was on duty while I was walking to work I decided to splash through a big puddle on the sidewalk like I used to do as a little kid. A Major stopped me and asked, “What are you doing, soldier?” I replied, “Letting my inner child out while I walk, Sir!” He smiled and said, “Carry on, soldier!” As he walked away he purposely jumped up and splashed a puddle himself, laughed, and walked out of sight. Thank you so much for your service, glad you found one of the simple pleasures in life to bring a smile to your face today (and a smile to the face of your superior also!)

Smashing mate. good luck

Marines never address other Marines as soldiers.

He/She didn't say what branch of the military to which they were attached. Korea currently has 2 Air Force, 12 Army and 1 Navy bases (provided by a quick Google search). Marines probably provide support at all bases, thus if the Marine was stationed on one of the many Army bases, he/she could easily cross paths with a Major... and the Army often refers to themselves and others as 'soldiers'. Personal note: I'm glad there can be times of relaxation and playfulness in the heavy job we ask you (our young men and women) to shoulder. Keep reminding your superiors of the need for such allowances and reminders that we are all human. Though I may not agree with policies which place you there... I support you. Thank you for your service. -USN, PO2, 1990-2000
