But this morning I was having a rough time due to some family issues at home, and as I was waiting at the bus stop with light tears in my eyes, I realized that my bus driver’s “good morning” greeting was something I was really looking forward to. So when she said it to me, I gave her a hug and finally said, “Thank you!” MMT

Why some people are hesitant even to greet back?

For me, personally, I hesitate to respond back because when someone unexpectedly interacts with me I get some sort of panic overload and it makes everything in my mind turn fuzzy. It's then hard for me to do anything other than what I was expecting to do, and in this case walking to my seat to the bus. I'd most likely respond properly after the first few times, but until then the best she'd get it probably just a few incoherent mumbles. That's my personal reason, anyways. Also, waiting for the bus really sucks especially when you're in a school area that starts super early, so being grumpy and just tired could be a reason too.
