Today, I found it a little awkward that a young boy kept on staring at me on the subway. Finally his mom realized what he was doing and asked him to stop. He said, “But she’s beautiful, mommy.” MMT

and how does that make us think.....?

I'm sure stalkers everywhere like to hear that it's okay to stare as long as she's beautiful, that something she can't help condones unwanted attention.

I think it MMTs about why it's rude to stare and why being stared at is so discomforting.

It makes me think about how in our society, we automatically assume somebody staring at us indicates we have a flaw. Thoughts such as "Do I have something on my face?" or "Is something in my teeth?" or "Are my clothes messed up?" tend to be the first to enter our minds when we find somebody staring. But here, the little boy was staring simply because he liked the way OP looked. Nice sense of imagination, guys. You all must think a lot.

#4 - Before you criticize did you ever think many of us females are familiar with men (of any age, it looks like) staring simply because they like the way we look? That's no excuse. Don't talk to us about imagination. You need perspective.

the kid is like 5. there's no way you can compare that to a "man" staring at her. not even close. so back off.

You don't think about how this is the way it starts, that the kid hasn't grown up to be a creep yet? Read #2 again. Many people are still uncomfortable being stared at even if they're attractive.

"So back off." I like that. Playing tough on the internet. "What are you gonna do about it? Come over here and make me."

Antilegomen, just shut up. You're being a prick.

Staring is impolite and uncomfortable regardless of its intent or age of perpetrator. The users of this site don't want to think if it takes them out of their bubble.

lil creeper

Can't you people see that this moment made the OP happy? That being called beautiful, and by someone who means it in this world is a rare wonder? It's as if you people want to ruin all these little moments of happiness for everyone else. Leave this special moment alone... Molly, I wish you the best of luck in all that you do, and the best of life :)

LostInADayDream, is a rose less beautiful for its thorns?

@lichen very well put :) people seem to struggle very hard against the concept of duality, in my experience at least. In a way none of the commenters are really wrong. But they're not entirely right either.

I think the poster was simply enjoying an honest and sincere compliment from an innocent child. To me beautiful does not define just superficial beauty. I only call someone beautiful when their inner beauty shines through and compliments their outward beauty, otherwise they're just pretty or gorgeous. Molly, don't feel bad for feeling beautiful (sheesh...talk about being politically correct). The compliment was sincere so enjoy it.
