Today, my teacher, Mr. Kaden, confiscated a note I was passing to my best friend. In it I mentioned how my father hits my mother and me. At the end of the class Mr. Kaden handed my note back to me as I was walking out of his classroom. On it he wrote down his phone number and a message that said, “If you need an adult to talk to, off the record, you can call me any time.” I think I might make that call tonight. MMT

If this is true--- it's completely illegal for him to NOT report this no matter what state he is in...

If you end up calling Mr. Kaden or whoever he is, you need to ask him for help (he should've already reported it anyway. Even if its illegal not to; he needs to be responsible and do the right thing). And if you don't, you need to go to someone, I don't care who, just someone who can help. And your mother needs to get the courage to do so as well. I know it's scary and everything, but it's the only way you're going to get out of it. Good luck.

I was going to say the same thing as DiabloNatt - this teacher is at best misguided, and at worst...???? I don't wanna think. There is no way this teacher should be offering you ANYTHING "off the record", no matter how well intentioned. Please thank your teacher politely, and then see your school councellor, immediately! Please? Good luck:)

Most likely he's going to report the abuser regardless of whether the poster calls him or not but still wanted the poster to know they have someone to talk too

As a teacher, I found this to be extremely inappropriate and I'm sincerely hoping that it isn't true. A teacher should never be giving out his personal telephone number to a student and should definitely, as others have stated, report this to someone immediately. It's a heaven burden to bear, but we are mandated reporters.
