Today, my best friend confided in me that he's having trouble playing a depressed character because he has no emotional tie to the role. He's overweight, not very good looking, 17 and never been kissed, and a total theater and science nerd. But he loves who he is, and he's happy. MMT

Way to be judgemental. Why shouldn't he be happy to be himself? Sounds like you place too much emphasis on stereotypes.

its not OP that's necessarily judgmental, though. Its society and other highschoolers. At MY school, kids like this guy tend to get teased. A lot. Keep in mind that the OP is a girl, and teenage girls get a lot of pressure to be "perfect" in the media's eyes. To her, the reason why he shouldn't be happy with him self is because, quite frankly, most teenagers these days AREN'T. That's why its a MMT.

I guess American high school society is crueler than elsewhere. There isn't such pressure & teasing like that where I am.

Also notice that she said it was inspiring.

@lol1337a Way to generalize America...

That sounds like my ex and close friend Andrew Holmes. I adore him and he said the same thing to me. :]

You really are a horrible friend.

Confidence is sexy.
