Today, I watched a teammate of mine in track lose a race. He was the last leg of the relay team – one of our fastest runners. At first I didn't understand, until I noticed the other runner. He had Down's syndrome. My friend was practically jogging, just behind him, urging him on every step of the way. MMT

Huh. Let him win rather than let him compete as a normal person instead of someone with Downs. Yeah, your friend is REALLY a great person. This makes me think, but only about how that poor kid must have felt. You do realize that because they have Downs doesn't mean they can't tell someone is treating them differently because of their disability, right? Great, the kid won. Because your friend let him. Nice thought, but wrong action.

Daxx, what if that other kid with Downs lost every single race he has ever ran? Imagine finally winning a race regardless of the conditions.

ShortKid, my cousin has Downs. Sometimes, he is aware that people treat him very differently (as some people are more obvious about it than others) and he usually hates it - ESPECIALLY when it's someone treating him like he can't do something on his own, without their help. Sure, that other kid might have felt awesome. But I just know my cousin would feel terrible, and I think it's a pretty shite thing to do to someone.
