Today, I found out for the first time that despite constant complaints about being broke, and using what little money he gets from odd construction jobs to pay the rent, my father has been depositing $100 every month into my college fund since I was born. MMT

Your father is a great man.

Always carry with you the knowledge that your father loves you and his reason for being on this planet is to care for you. My dad makes hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. I am a freshman in college... he refuses to pay tuition for even one class.

Sometimes it takes being poor to appreciate value.

I wish my parents did something like that for me

@DrpsOfJptr909 My parents make the same and refuse to pay for my college tuition either. But they do it to teach me to work hard for my own money. I would much rather tell someone that I made it through college by paying my own way then saying that my parents paid my tuition.

I didn't go to college when I got out of high school, because I didn't think my parents had set aside a college fund. Last month my dad came to me with the paperwork and said that he hadn't given it to me when I graduated because he knew I wasn't ready for college. And I'm so grateful - I see a lot of people my age going into school only to waste money on switching majors because they have no idea what they want to do. I still am not sure what I'd like to do in life, but it's great to know my dad gave me the chance to do it.
