Today, I got lost in Manhattan. As I stood on the sidewalk trying to get someone’s attention for a little assistance, 25+ well dressed business folks blazed by me, purposely avoiding eye contact. Finally a teenager with spiked green hair and a pierced lip stopped, smiled and gave me perfect directions. MMT

it's because those business men don't really care about anything besides money, but that green haired teenager has realized life is much more than money. that teenager has realized already that what matters most in this world is being a good person. that teenager knows that in the end the only thing that matters is happiness, and seeing you happy made her happy.

greed is going to be the downfall of America

Sometimes you CAN judge a book by its cover - just not in the way most folks think.

I hate how people judge people by the way they look. The nicest people I have ever met have people at tattoo conventions convered in tattoos from head to toe and have piercings. They are the most insightful, expressive people I know.

Honestly I'm getting pretty sick of the MMT that are about "rich" looking people and "not so great" looking people, because it's always biased towards the latter. It's true that you shouldn't be judging people just from their looks, but contrary to the posters above, you can't automatically think the "underdog" appearance is actually better. I actually think that "rich" looking businessmen in suits have a really bad rep for greed and that in itself is unfair.

See, you can always trust punk rockers!!!

Dude, those business people had places to be. Ignoring people is nothing personal. (They probably use the that logic to their advantage gratuitously, unfortunately.)

People in Manhattan have places to be. These were just the adults- I act the same way, even if sometimes I do have the time to stop and help others. That kid was just a New York child, he hates the establishment same as anyone outside of the city might, even if he loves the place. There's always gonna be people like him to help others- he isn't constantly running all over the place trying to get things done. He's enjoying life, like he should be.

Yeah, I agree with #5, 7 and 8. Yes, they are businessmen but just because they ignore you in New York City does not mean they are full of greed and despise a tourist like you. New York City is not only a tourist destination I hope everyone realizes. It is a place where people work hard to try to provide for their families. Yes, there are people who just want to make money. That green-haired teenager is just what you called him or her. A TEENAGER! Kids are more willing to help out than adults are, just a fact. I am just tired of the fact people in this place criticize others with their self-righteous opinions. Within those 25+ business men, maybe one had an interview or a meeting with a client they could not be a second late for. Maybe some of them were greedy and horrible people but maybe some of them had families that needed feeding and school tuitions paid. AND maybe some of them didn't see you. Maybe that teenager was just as horrible and his past full of greed and selfishness. Just because he helped you with directions does not make him a free person full of joy and life. Just because a man or woman wearing a fancy suit ignored your directions doesn't mean they will rot in hell because of greed. Get over yourselves.

Relax. It's just a MMT post...

this is a modern day example of the good samaritan. all people should be like this, and love their enemies.

it shouldn't matter if they are on their way to work and the teenager "didnt have anything to do" People should be able to help eachother without thinking about what they will get in return. which, very few people do. In my experience, people that go against the mainstream do tend to be kinder, because they understand that.

mainstream is always bad (wow....generalizing much?) @emstone knows up...

Just too common to see. While sophistication has rendered us indifferent and apathetic, it is time for us to stop and see how a little gesture of sincerity and a tiny simple smile can make a difference.~

I refused one man who he still didn't unstand what I said although I had told him three times yesterday. But maybe I have fell in love another man whom I should not love.Crazy~~~

This little thing just reflects a true reality that most people are indifferent to what happened around them.that is the tragedy of our time .it is hard to imagine what our world would be like in the future.what is life about ?i think it is not about the money but about the people coming and going .

oh,that's not good.

oh,that's not good.

The intimidating are the nicest people sometimes :)
