It's true you should pursue your dreams... and it's great when people achieve them. but you have to consider what would happen if you don't make it, and the chances of not "making it".

Oh my gosh. I know a guy named Paul whose son, I think the same age, got a record deal, which came out in September 2009. They're alternative rock. If I'm not mistaken, the band is called The Kicks and you can get all their music for free on their website.
