Today on the way to the airport I told my mom if I ever saw someone in the armed services in a restaurant I would buy their meal. I’m sitting in a restaurant at the airport right now and my mom pointed to a solider sitting two tables down. He doesn't know it yet, but I just bought him his lunch. MMT

I honestly detest my job (I'm a waitress), but I stay there because any time a member of the armed forces comes in we buy their meal.

Okay, while this is a really nice gesture and all, I can say as a member of the US military, people doing this makes for an extremely uncomfortable and awkward experience for me and all the people I know in my unit. I think maybe if we were drafted it would be nicer, but really, we're just doing our jobs like the rest of you an we get paid shit tons of money to do it while getting amazing benefits.

Not to be a total jerk about this, but if you don't even know the soldier, how do you know s/he isn't one who does the bad things. Not just killing the enemy, but killing civilians, raping women, torture, etc.?

Also, why only buy a soldier their lunch? Why not nurses or doctors of firefighters or police officers, too?

Or teachers?

oh for gods sake guys, the poster was only trying to perform a nice gesture. do nurses, teachers etc really die for their country in the most awful of settings? xx

Do nurses kill innocent civilians to save lives? Can a really good teacher touch hundreds of lives without a bullet?
