Today my sister is the strong and beautiful. Seven years ago she was raped by a man she trusted. She is now gay. Many judge her for it, and it has not been easy for her. But the fact that she has become a beautiful, self confident person who always goes out of her way to help others despite all that she has been through, really makes me proud of her and MMT.

"Now" gay?

Uhh, a person doesn't "become gay". Asexual, maybe. But not gay

You don't just become asexual either.. perhaps celibate.

I think the wording was bad, so I'll give the OP the benefit of the doubt. OP probably means that her sister doesn't trust men anymore and seeks out relationships with women only.

Maybe she doesn't distrust/hate men. Maybe she gave one a chance while she tried to figure herself out but the guy assaulted her. Now people hate her for loving women as if that's always the ideal pairing. Irony, at least according to our modern redefinition. Maybe she's a bisexual who made a choice, maybe she's always loved women. The rape is irrevelant because sexual abuse has long been debunked for influencing orientation, and also so common you'd see a lot more sexual confusion if that were the case.
