This is so incredibly true. People don't understand the toll of mental illness. And acting as if nothing is wrong is so hard.
applies to migraines as well. Even the doctors seem to think it's imaginary, or fake to get pain pills......30 seconds in my world would make them a lifelong believer.
I suffer from depression. There are no signs as to when it is trying to bury vs. when it is hardly noticeable. I thank God, nature, and/or whomever will listen that my wife is always there and tries to understand when I am in a 'down' place. Most people don't get it, but mental illness is no different from physical illness in that it can be debilitating. Hang on when things are tough! You are not alone in your suffering or in your silent wish.
I'm a grad student in school for counseling & there have been countless times that this exact thought gets brought up in our class discussions - in general, ppl don't understand that mental illness is just as serious as a physical illness. If you get physically sick, you'd wna go to the doctor to get treated yes? Same idea with having a mental illness; just because you can't necessarily see it, doesn't make it any less real.
