Today, I find myself increasingly unsure about the "American dream." I grew up in a small town, with little abject poverty, in a white middle-class family. But now I'm interning at a non-profit in a city that works with current and former prisoners to get them on track. Seeing them fight so hard for what I've taken for granted, and seeing the laws and odds in their way that almost seem to be designed to keep power in the hands of people like me, MMT.

Unfortunately, they have laws and odds against them because they're already felons. They made life difficult for themselves.

As one of the 6.3 billion people living outside of the US, I can assure you the American dream is bullshit.

When we graduated we wrer asked to define the American Dream; see I went to an alternative school with people from all walks of life. There were people I went to school with whose lives involved situations like the one you described. Any how the school had a free speach policy, any one could speak their mind with respect, and rebuke thouse who they disagreed with. I offered that the modern American Dream was simply to have a dream, and to persue it. No one disagreed with me.
