This hit close to home.. I feel your son's pain.
I'd give pretty much anything just to get a weekend with my father. Please, try to set your priorities straight.
You're probably not a bad dad as your username suggests. You are just trying to provide for your family so they don't have to have financial worries. But the most important thing in a son's life is that bond with his father. My dad is always out of town providing for us. But as I was growing up he always tried to be there. Now in college I see that he does the best that he can with the given situation. Just know that a financially stable family isn't always the happiest.
Look, you raised a kid that isn't materialistic. That's a good thing. I was lucky. My parents are medical technicians and traded off shifts so one of them was always with me and my siblings when we were young.
I agree with anaggie. You're just trying to provide for your family. But I feel your son's pain. I had one day a week with my dad if that when I was growing up. The kicker was that his own business put him into debt so no matter how much he worked my mother basically did the supporting as much as my father disagree's.
