Today, when you asked me out, I said no. Not because I don't like you, but because it's easier than having my heart broken again someday. MMT

That's no way to go through life.

Ok...

I'm sorry, but that's just insanely silly. Why would you turn someone down because there's a potential that they'll break your heart? You don't know what will happen and sacrificing a potentially fantastic relationship for the far away fear of a break up isn't a way to live. Take the chance and if it doesn't work out in the long term, then at least you had a great time while you two were going out.

Learning to deal with heartbreak is part of having a full life, and is a good thing. The trick is learning to deal with it in healthy ways. I'll quote Dan Savage: "Every relationship fails until one doesn't."

This is ridiculous. Get over it, emo kid. I'm sorry, but this isn't a MMT, it's more like a FYL.

I think you guys are missing what the OP is trying to say; not "Oh, I'm never going to go out because my heart was broken," but rather "We dated, you broke my heart, so I'm not going out with you again." I think it's the same person.

"If we deny love that is given to us, if we refuse to give love because we fear the pain of loss, then our lives will be empty, our loss greater."

After reading it again I think you're right, JustOnce. And if that's the case then OP's choice is completely understandable.

people who don't know what it's like to have your heart broken shouldn't comment on it, act like they know what it's like, or call others "emo" just for feeling human emotions.

take the chance :]

sometimes it's hard to believe in something great, especially when you're only shown distrust and heartbreak. but you have to believe that someone out there is willing to give you the same amount of love as you are to them. and if they didn't, that just means they weren't suitable for you. don't give up on yourself.

Its always worth putting yourself out there and taking a chance on love. It only has to work once.

How old do you think Deena is? When you're an adult, you see people and potential relationships more clearly, and your priorities are different. I learned my lesson the hard way dating my best friend for years when we were incompatible as lovers and not suited to living together. His financial instability and wild mood swings were enough to make me leave him, but his humor and kindness were enough to break my heart. Isn't it mature to turn down a relationship that wouldn't work out? You don't always know but sometimes yes you do!
