Today, after 24 years, I finally stopped lying about being a Christian just to please my parents. And despite all of my fears, they were actually okay with it. MMT

I wish I had your courage.

ive spent 3 years trying to think of a way to tell my parents the same

I have spent a long time lying to them about this... just not worth the battle and that they'll disown me

This is a rough subject to talk about if you have deeply religious parents. Something you should keep reminding them of while you're talking is that christians claim to be forgiving and loving of everyone, no matter the religion. If they disobey that, then they're hypocrites. As long as you use logic and reason, you'll be able to have a civilized talk about religion with them. Just don't accuse them of being wrong or stupid (even though, you know...) because it will put them on the defensive. The best weapon an atheist has is the bible. It proves itself wrong. Look up some excepts that theist tend to sweep under the rug. It's a hard conversation, but the truth needs to spoken. If they really love you, they'll support you no matter what.
