Today, my high school class voted me for ‘best smile’ in our senior yearbook. But what they don’t know is that before my father overdosed last year, he used to beat me and my mom almost every day. My home life was in completed shambles, and school was the only place I could smile. MMT

Just because you're smiling, doesnt mean that everything's alright. We judge people a lot by what we see.

i know how you feel. my friends all think i'm the happiest person around, i just dont have the guts to tell them whats really going on in my life.

nickahol, you're missing the point entirely.

no he / she isnt missing the point. Nickahol is referring to the people at the posters school- everyone saw her smiling and judged her by her smiling face, thinking that just because shes smiling everything in her life is ok.

I think what you persevered through is what makes it, truly, the "best" smile. The fact that you were able to keep even a shred of positivity during such a difficult time is incredibly beautiful and inspiring. Plenty of people fall to pieces over a lot less than that. Stay strong OP. Your personal strength is what MMT

joiepartout, the poster is basically saying that he/she was genuinely happy at school, and thus able to smile. The whole point is that the smile was not some sort of cover-up...it was genuine, DESPITE the troubles at home. At least that's what I got from it :)

Randomname - Just because that's what you got from it doesn't mean that you are right. You can't tell someone else that they are missing the point entirely because it is only YOUR opinion, not theirs.

I'm glad you made it through such a rough time. Keep smiling = )
