I've not once met a hippie who isn't accepting of anyone LGBT. I don't know how your parents can claim to be hippies, considering hippies are all about acceptance and love all around.

Don't judge people you don't know. Both my parents are left-leaning moderates who support full marriage and adoption rights and have a few gay friends. When I started a Gay/Straight Alliance in high school with my own gay best friend, my parents were horrified that it was really their daughter who was gay and coming out publically. Such behavior was tolerated when it wasn't their experience in their own home. It's entirely possible for her parents to be hypocrites.

That sucks, I'm sorry to hear that lesbihonest. You do have a whole community full of people like us to back you up. And, our government isn't as fair as they claim to be; so we can't group and stereotype hippies always as open-minded, like lichen said, hypocrites.
