Why is it that ALL american children are so sickly sweet?

I know the feeling, my mom works 9 hour days at a job she hates while my dad is working 24/7 at home and because of that my entire summer has been ruined, I can''t go anywhere, and I berely see my mom anymore. I wish so much that she'd lose her job or quit, but that would mean less money which we "really" need right now.
