Today, I walked for 2 hours through a bustling metropolitan area, passing thousands of people. I was wearing a "Free Hugs" t-shirt and I was only approached by one person for a free hug. MMT

612 - I see this as less than pity for themselves, but more of an introspective take on the fact that people won't take free hugs, people do not want them... people are afraid of the random acts of kindness others have. Things along those lines.

Aw, that makes me kind of sad. But at least you helped make that one person's day a little brighter!

I would have smiled at you, but I would not have taken a hug. Why not offer hugs to your friends and family before judging the world for ignoring you. It's not selfish to start close to home. You've ignored them.

I tried something similar, at a street event: I held up a free-hugs sign and literally invited folks to accept a free hug. Got about 400 hugs that afternoon. Made many folks... and me, really happy.

It's just that the world has been so jaw-droppingly terrible, that random acts of kindness could be viewed as rude tricks.

i wouldve walked up to you.

Maybe nobody did because it was a t-shirt. I don't usually read peoples shirts and if I do, I don't usually take them at face value. If I was there I probably A) wouldn't have even noticed your shirt or B) not taken it seriously cause its just a shirt. Next time try a sign, its more noticeable.
