Today, my best friend’s wife was mugged and assaulted in our home town while he was overseas fighting in Afghanistan. MMT

What do his circumstances have to do with hers?

An inference may be made that if he wasn't in the Middle East bombing innocent civilians & fighting a much maligned war, he would have been home to protect her.

That's certainly not the reality of sexual assault. You don't need protection from a stranger in the night so much as someone you know and have erroneously trusted. Don't be naive. Also, this is a perfect MMT for someone to derail with military rape statistics.

Grumbling aside, I did appreciate your assessment of the husband's "sacrifice" when this all occurred.

Wow, lo1337, calm down and check your attitude. I don't like the war, either, but I have a lot of respect for the people fighting in it. Don't sneer at the people doing their job and attempting to protect our country. If you spent time with people in the military, I highly doubt you would talk about them like that. And because you're so ignorant, in simplified terms, the message is that the woman's husband is overseas fighting to keep this country safe for civilians, yet his wife still wasn't safe.

getaio- If our troops stayed here we would be fighting even more terrorist attacks. I hate the war as much as the next person, but it's a necessary evil to keep OUR country safe from them. Bush messed up sending them to Iraq, but he thought what he did was right at the time. Any civilian innocents taken are accidents or were set up by the very terrorist groups we're fighting. Don't you DARE blame them on us.
