Today, I found out that one of my 2nd graders came to school every day this week with only a banana for lunch. When I asked her why, she said, “My mom doesn’t have a job right now. We don’t have much food in the house.” MMT

A banana would be more expensive than cheap bread with a cheap filling. This doesn't make sense

It would also be more nutritious, & the banana trees in the park across the road from my house cost much less less than cheap, nasty bread.

Bananas are 19 cents from Trader Joe's, Right Knight, not to mention they could've been taken off the discount produce shelf from a regular grocery.

I certainly hope this teacher has someone inform this parent about free breakfast and lunch services at the school.

It's funny how the poster didn't mention doing anything about it.

I wonder if the teacher found a way to help this child with lunch....or if she figured out a way to help her with food =) and i hope they are doing better now...
