Today, after working 60 hour weeks for almost 25 years, my small business was acquired by a larger company for 10 million dollars. After signing the final paperwork this afternoon, I grabbed my cell phone and looked through the numbers. I wanted to call someone, a friend, to celebrate with them. But not a single name jumped out at me. I didn’t realize how isolated my lifestyle has been until that moment. MMT

Drunkbunny- In my opinion, those are the wrong kind of "friends." OP- I'm sorry it took something like this for you to have that life changing epiphany. Being lonely is a terrible feeling. But your realization was just that. Life changing. It's never to late to change. It's never too late to reach out, or to salvage old relationships and form new ones. You can do it. bern, @Rose is right. it's never too late to reconnect with those you were once close with. i recently started talking again to a couple of my best friends that i ended up isolating myself from, or forsaking the friendship altogether, due to my ex-girlfriend that they told me i needed to leave. i said some terrible things to them. and now i'm no longer with her, and me and those 2 are closer than ever. keep faith.
