Today, it's been 3 days since my best friend died. My best friend, however, was a dog. I've never experienced anyone this close to me dying, except my grandmother. Some people don't understand the attachment to animals, but he did more for me than any of my other friends. I find myself feeling empty and lost. I would give anything for a simple lick from him, or to pet him again. Missing him MMT.

Oh sweetie I'm so sorry, I know exactly how that feels. My dog died in January, and she was my best friend for fourteen years. Sometimes I still wake up and can't wait to reach down to pet her, and then it hits me that she's gone, but one day when I was at the vet's office with her, some one said the nicest thing that gives me so much comfort, they said 'your dog looks so happy and so at peace, I can tell she has had a wonderful life and she loves you so much.' Your dog was your best friend, so you were definitely his best friend, and please take comfort in the fact that he loved you his whole life, and loving you is what made him happy.

Thank you very much :) It helps a lot when people are so understanding! Unfortunately, we only had him for 3 1/2 years. We rescued him and when we first got him, they told us he was about 4 and it turns out he was much, much older. I am a HUGE animal lover, but dogs are by far my favorite. Him and I had such a unique connection that I've never felt with another animal. But, you are so right! I'm sorry about your dog as well, it hurts to lose such a dear friend and member of the family. And, really, thank you! It's people like you who make it easier :) I can't tell you how nice it is to hear people be so comforting over the loss of a pet!
