Today, as tears streamed down my face again, I remembered how I was endlessly warned that teaching high school in ‘the ghetto’ was tough, but I did not know that would mean staying at school until 6PM sometimes because I am crying too hard to drive home. MMT

Damn, that's rough. But you have to keep going. Try to keep in mind the reason why you took it, hopefully it's a good reason. If not then try to make the best out of the situation by knowing that you hold one of the most under appreciated roles in our society. Kids, well most people actually, are being manipulated and being dumbed down by mass media and it's tough to break that conditioning. With all the distractions from values, philosophy, and overall culture awareness, it's extremely difficult to try to engage people in subjects of depth especially in a shallow society. Those kids will most likely not be exposed to those things in the environment which they are in. It's up to informed individuals to spread or with hold their knowledge. With that said, there are those diamonds in the rough. There are kids that if exposed to the right influences, can be great individuals.Think of youreself as a recruiter for knowledge. If you truly care and believe in the idea of education being important, then aknowleged that you are in a postion to make a difference in SOME kids life, not all, not most, in fact very few. But if every year you help some kids establish how important it is to not be stupid and motivate some of them to question, and help society, then you yourself are helping society.
