Today, I received a gigantic gift bag from one of my friends. She said she appreciated me being there for her, and that I am one of her best friends. She is mentally and physically handicapped, and I merely see her for half an hour once per week. MMT

In light of this admission, maybe you could see her for more than half an hour once a week before rushing to the internet to pat yourself on the back.

lichen, perhaps if you opened your mind a little bit, you would realize that the OP isn't patting herself on the back for being a good person. She realizes that the girl must not have very many friends if the OP's 30 minute visits have a rather large impact on the girl.

I agree with firewolfe's comment, lichen. What I gathered from this story (and the fact that it's under the "Sad" category) is that the original poster realized that she isn't there for her handicapped friend as much as she should be. To the original poster. I hope that the thirty minutes a week changed and your relationship with your friend grew stronger! :-)
